Time-saving ways to eat your five-a-day |
LOTS OF US FAIL due a simple lack of time. From pre-cut veg to frozen berries, we’ve got six suggestions to help you eat well on the busiest of days:
1. Swig a small (150ml) glass of unsweetened fruit or vegetable juice or a smoothie. Cartons and small bottles are easy to drink on the go.
2. Tinned veg are often as nutritious as fresh but take no time to prepare. Serve them cold in a salad or warm through on the hob in minutes to serve with dinner (just make sure they don’t contain added salt or sugar).
3. Pick up pre-cut packs of veg – brilliant when you’ve no time to chop, and bung in the microwave.
4. Place a bowl of fruit, a packet of dried fruit or a ready prepared fruit or raw veg snacking plate (most supermarkets sell them) by your desk or sofa.
5. Fling frozen veg straight from the freezer into a curry, soup, stew or pasta sauce – no prep required!
6. Chuck a handful of frozen fruit such as raspberries and mango pieces plus a banana into a blender with a dash of liquid like almond or soya milk, or coconut water. Whizz up and glug back. Job done.
