Fishing in Dorset

Fishing in Dorset
Sea, shore and lake fishing are popular in Dorset. As well as offering a lovely, relaxing setting for fishing, there are a number of other benefits to fishing in Dorset, including numerous edible fish and the opportunity to participate in the SeaClean project.
Where to Fish in Dorset
As well as sea and shore fishing being a popular activity along the Dorset coastline, particularly around the harbours of Christchurch, Poole, Weymouth, West Bay and Lyme Regis, there are a number of peaceful fishing lakes that are perfect for chilling out and catching carp on your summer holiday. Take a look at the following three lakes and see what they have to offer. However, if these don’t quite float your fishing boat, take a further look here: http://www.go-fish.co.uk/dorset.htm.
Arfleet Mill Lakes, Corfe Castle
There are two lakes located at Corfe Castle, both offer a lovely setting and are well-known to be good lakes for carp fishing. Tickets can be purchased from Purbeck Angling, Wareham. Contact 01929 427421.
Radipole Lake, Radipole Lane, Weymouth
Located on the River Wey, Radipole Lake flows into Weymouth Harbour and is actually a nature reserve run by the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds). The lake is perfect for fishing several different species of carp, as well as Roach, Rudd, Dace, Pike, Eels, Perch, Tench and Mullet in summer.
Radipole Lake consists 15 acres of water to fish, as well as a 5 acre open water stretch for those who enjoy distance casting. If you have additional rod licenses, the platform at Radipole Lake allows up to 6 rods to be fished off it.
Warmwell, Near Weymouth
The two lakes at Warmwell offer a fabulous, picturesque place for fishing and offer the opportunity to catch Carp (up to 40lbs), Tench (up to 8lbs) and Roach (up to 3lbs). It is open all year round, although, when fishing here, you must use barbless hooks.
Edible Fish in Dorset
While many people fish for peace and pleasure, there are a fair few fishers that prefer to catch edible fish. Home of the Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival, Dorset’s edible fish are among the best! Check details about the Seafood Festival here: http://www.dorsetseafood.co.uk/.
It is possible to catch numerous edible fish along the Dorset coastline (depending on how experienced and keen you are!), including Atlantic Halibut, Dover Sole and Lemon Sole (flat fish), Haddock, European Cod and European Hake (white fish) as well as Herring, Mackerel and Skate.
The SeaClean Project
The SeaClean Project provides recycling bins for you to recycle your fishing line for a more environmentally-friendly way to fish. The bins are located at Christchurch, Swanage, Kimmeridge, Weymouth, West Bexington as well as West Bay, Poole Harbour, Baiter and Sandbanks.
